List of Prime Ministers of Japan 2022 – Who Was First PM Of Japan – The office of the Prime Minister of Japan was established during the Meiji Restoration in the 1880s. Originally elected and appointed by the Emperor (with the recommendation of advisors), the Prime Minister has been nominated by diet (Kokkai) since the 1947 Constitution before being formally appointed by the Emperor. It is a chronologically ordered list of prime ministers from the oldest to the most recent.
