List of Presidents of Macedonia 2022 | Who Was First President Of Macedonia – The office was first established on 8 September 1991, a few months before the Declaration of Independence. The first president was Kiro Gligorov, who was the world’s oldest president until his resignation in 1999. However there was mostly a formal position with legislative power. Vested in the Prime Minister and the Assembly, the President is the commander-in-chief of the armed forces and the first body for the performance of foreign affairs.
The powers and obligations of the President are determined by the Constitution and the laws. The President must be a citizen of North Macedonia, must be over the age of 40 and have been in North Macedonia for at least ten of the last fifteen years before the election.
